Coming from a small family myself, I'm always amazed when I work with large extended families like the 24 member Lane Family. "Poppy & Nanna" (Grandpa & Grandma) asked me for the "Paparazzi" Family package, as they wanted lots of photos of them with their grown kids and 11 grandkids! In addition, they were celebrating both their birthday's as well.
It started with a glance, then a brush of hands, then a stolen kiss...and then, next thing you know there was an engagement photo session on the romantic white sands of Lanikai Oahu at sunrise, splashing in the ocean waves and all manner of lascivious behavior!
The photography request I'm always the most excited to get is the super secret surprise proposal! Arranging the secret plans, the code words and then getting to see it all fall into place and capturing the special moments as they happen is just, well, so...romantic!
When Tamara & Mike first contacted me for a honeymoon photography session on the beach, it soon became clear Tamara was having a hard time choosing a location for their portraits. I'm a little embarrassed to admit I'm a closet romantic. I love working with couples in love and I especially love when I get to help a guy capture that romantic special moment when he proposes and asks his girlfriend for her hand in marriage! How sweet.
Analise booked a couples photo session with me 6 months before their vacation to Oahu Hawaii. She knew where and when she wanted her portrait session too: Lanikai Beach at sunrise. As the day drew near, we texted back and forth a few times to confirm where we'd meet and what time. Then, the night before we were to shoot, I received a text from her long time boyfriend, Michael. After sneaking a peak at her cell to get my number he texted to let me know he planned to propose to Analise during the session.
The Incledon's brought three generations of the family to Hawaii for the 2016 Christmas Holiday season - grandparents, kids and the grown up grandkids, 11 in all. With an ongoing week of clouds and rain, we headed for one of my favorite photo session location, Waialae Beach Park, a gorgeous palm tree lined beach not far from Waikiki but usually remarkably low on people.
The Loran Family of four (plus one girlfriend) signed up for our Luminous Light Package, utilizing the double session option. On New Year's Day morning, Jan 1st of 2017, we met at Kawela Bay Park on Oahu's North Shore (near Turtle Bay) for the first session of the day. On the agenda: fun family portraits in the trees and forest followed by beach play in the waves. And wow, did we all have a great time!
The Mayo Family called with what they thought was a special request: "We love your sunset photos! Can we get individual sunset shots as well and not just of the whole family?"
Well, of course! It's your photo session! That settled, I met the Mayo Family at Magic Island for an evening of creating beautiful family photos with scenic backdrops of Waikiki, Diamond Head, the park's trees, and of course, the beach. I loved that they brought a change of clothes and props for the two kids, with a ukulele for the boy and a hulu dress for the young girl - wow, what fun! I just love this image! The Ackerman Family warned me they were a large and boisterous group! Ten adults and ten kids ranging from 16 yo to 6mos. And they were wonderfully boisterous and we all had great fun during their double sessions, one in the morning at Waialae Beach Park and another that evening at Magic Island near Waikiki on Oahu... click title to read more....
On Halloween morning, 2016, I got a call from Damien asking if I was possibly available that evening. After a month of setting up several vendors for his surprise marriage proposal to his girlfriend, Janine, every one of the vendors, including the photographer, had cancelled at the last minute!
Karl & Brenda came to Oahu Hawaii to celebrate their honeymoon on the warm sunny sands of Hawaii's beaches. They didn't have much time to spare before catching a cruise ship for a week long tour of the Hawaiian islands but we found an hour or so for some romantic honeymoon photos among the palm trees of Waialae Beach Park located near Kahala Hotel Resort.
